First Cosy Cosmos Show

For my solo show at McPherson Gallery in Auckland in 2006 I first came up with the name ‘Cosy Cosmos’ for my new body of work. Here I showed a selection of paintings and sculptures all inspired by microbial water organisms.

Water organisms are said to contain basic building blocks of life so may be viewed as a kind of source material­. But a microbiologist would be puzzled at how the microscopic life was depicted as it had been woven into a new order. This alteration might address anxieties over biogenetic manipulation and mutation. However,  the experience of large enigmatic fields of colouristic occurrence as well as the ‘cuddly’ sculptures add another dimension to these issues …
