Quintinia Serrata, Sculpture on the Gulf 2005

Quintinia Serrata,  is a hybrid artform undermining commercial advertising. It is a ‘sculpture’ in form of a billboard as well as a ‘painting’ in the landscape, depicting a microscopic cross-section of a Quintinia serrata leaf, a tree that has evolved by developing purple spots on its leaves to protects itself from damaging sunlight due to the hole in the ozone layer over New Zealand, here in Waiheke Island is offers shelter from the sun to humans, viewers to the outdoor sculpture exhibition.
