Classes/Workshops
The aim of my classes and workshops is to encourage and inspire creativity in people and to share what I know about traditional and contemporary art techniques with others. I am a committed and experienced teacher having run drawing, painting and modeling classes for adults and children for 18 years. I believe that a creative time out is important for every person because it helps us to develop lateral thinking that is so essential to our everyday life.
I am regularly teaching Lifedrawing, Urban Sketching & Landscape Sketching. Coming up are 2 new workshops ‘Creative Expression: Painting, Sculpture & Installation’ and ‘Have a go at Art’ at the Auckland University. I am also available for small groups and one-on-one painting and sculpture tuition. For primary school children I am running popular Holiday Art Programs and planning ’Clay Sculpture for Kidz’ in term 4 this year.
Here is some feedback on my teaching skills:
“Suza has taught art workshops at The University of Auckland’s Centre for Continuing Education since 2004. Feedbacks on her workshops have always been very positive with students commenting on Suza’s professionalism, enthusiasm and her supportive and encouraging teaching style. It has always been a pleasure working with Suza. She has excellent skills as an adult educator and her creative ideas, and her boundless energy are refreshing and energizing”. Libby Passau, BA, Dip Tchg, Programme Manager. Continuing Education, The University of Auckland
“I have just attended the ‘Introduction to Landscape Sketching’ course. It was a really creative and relaxing experience —just like going away for a weekend’s holiday, but still being able to sleep in your own bed!” Kitty Monk (March 2011)
“Suza is my ideal art teacher, lively, informed relating to students whatever their experience or skill and with great enthusiasm, gentle care, and knowledge of historical and contemporary issues, she leads us all to create freely and confidentially.” Deborah Jones, participant at a 2009 summer workshop run by the CCE, The University of Auckland
“I really surprised myself by discovering what I was capable of creating… Suza’s teambuilding workshop was a great opportunity to try a different approach to traditional business solutions”. Sharyn Puncheon, Head of Consumer Process & Control, Westpac Bank, Auckland
I have recently joined Suza’s lifedrawing class and am finding it both stimulating and informative. Each week I look forward to what the next lesson will hold. Sandra Kubaisi (May 2011)
