Quintinia Serrata

The billboard ’Quintinia Serrata’ at ‘Sculpture on the Gulf 2004’ on Waiheke Island forms a novel ’microscape painting installation’, with vinyl stretched over a timber structure  and the entire landscape becoming the art gallery. The large scale work blocks out the popular view to Matiatia Bay pastes in a new picture.  The image shows a microscopic image of a  leaf of a Quintinia serrata, a New Zealand evergreen tree with the ability to protects itself from damaging sunlight by developing purple spots on its leaves. Here at Waiheke Island, visitors to the outdoor exhibition are seen picnicking in it’s shade on hot sunny days. < Back
