Suza Schiele was born in Germany and grew up in Turkey where her parents where employed by the German Institute of Archaeology. She lived and worked in Europe as Interior Designer before she came to New Zealand in 1992. After raising a family she enrolled at Elam School of Fine Arts, The University of Auckland, studying under Derrick Cherrie, Michael Parekowhai and et al. She graduated with a BFA in 2001 and a Master of Fine Arts in 2003. During her studies she received ‘The University of Auckland Masters/Honours (2001) Scholarship’ and the ‘Scott Ellery Medal’.  During the next decade Suza developed her ‘Cosy Cosmos’ works and public interactive installations and performances from her studio in Devonport, Auckland, New Zealand while working part time as designer and art teacher. In 2013 she moved to Northland and started to build a new house and studio together with her art collaborator and life companion Warwick Bell.
